A maternity session is one of those moments you look back on for years. Not only because of the beautiful photos, but because of the experience itself. I’ve gathered here everything worth knowing before you decide to book one: when the best time is, how to prepare and what to expect on the day of the session.

When should you have a maternity session?
The best time for a maternity session is usually weeks 30–36 of pregnancy. Your bump is beautifully visible by then, and at the same time you usually still feel well enough to move around freely, so you can fully enjoy the whole session. Of course, every pregnancy is different. If you’re unsure about timing, just write to me and together we’ll set the date that suits you best.
How to prepare for a maternity session?
A few simple things really make a difference:
- Get a good night’s sleep the day before and stay hydrated — it shows in the photos.
- You don’t need to buy a special outfit — a rich studio wardrobe of dresses and fabrics in various sizes, designed to fit a bump, is waiting for you.
- If you have a particular mood in mind — natural, floral, a dark backdrop — just let me know in advance. I’ll prepare the set to match your expectations.
- Plan a relaxed morning — a session doesn’t like to be rushed.

A maternity session with your partner and children
Absolutely — a maternity session with your partner produces some of my favourite shots. Tender photos together stay in the family for years, and if you already have an older child, do bring them along. It’s a beautiful way to capture the whole family waiting for its newest member.

What does a maternity session look like, step by step?
We always start the session with a relaxed chat — a moment to get to know each other and get used to the camera. Then together we choose outfits from the studio wardrobe and match the set and lighting to what you’re wearing. The whole session takes approx. 1.5 hours, at a pace that suits you. No time pressure, with breaks whenever you need them.

Natural or floral — which style should you choose?
This is the question I hear most often. If you like minimalism and delicate, timeless shots, a simple silk gown and soft light will work well. If you prefer something more fairy-tale-like, I have a wide choice of floral accessories and backdrops in the studio. They go beautifully with a maternity session. You don’t have to settle on one style — within a single session we can easily combine several moods.
