Maternity session with your partner — how to prepare and what to expect

Maternity session with your partner: what to wear, what the dad-to-be’s role is and how to prepare for photos together in my Warsaw studio.

Maternity session with your partner — how to prepare and what to expect

A maternity session with your partner is one of the most beautiful keepsakes of the time spent waiting for your baby. The photos capture not only your bump, but also your closeness and tenderness. Many mums-to-be ask, though, whether their partner will cope and how to prepare him. That is why I have gathered the most important tips from my sessions in my Warsaw studio.

Can my partner take part in the maternity session?

Yes, the dad-to-be is more than welcome at the session. Individual photos and photos with your partner or children are part of both the mini session and the Standard package. That way you don’t have to choose between portraits “just for yourself” and shots together.

What is more, your partner’s role is really simple. Above all, he is there to support you and hug you. Sometimes a look into your eyes or at the bump is enough. Usually his part takes about 10 minutes of the whole session, while the keepsake stays for a lifetime.

What to wear for a maternity session with your partner?

A maternity session with your partner looks best when the two of you form a coherent whole. With mum’s elegant outfits, these work best:

  • plain trousers in a muted colour,
  • a plain shirt in calm tones or a single-colour T-shirt,
  • smart shoes and plain socks.

Avoid large slogans and loud patterns, because they draw attention away from the two of you. As for you, you don’t need to buy anything. In the studio there is a wardrobe of maternity gowns in sizes S–XXL waiting for you, as well as fabrics and accessories.

What does the session look like, step by step?

First, we choose the looks and gowns from the wardrobe. Then we take individual photos and photos together with your partner, and if you already have children, with them too. I always adapt the pace to you.

You don’t need to know how to pose. I will guide you step by step, and you can simply copy proven poses after me. That is why even men who don’t like having their photo taken usually relax quickly.

Which package should you choose for a maternity session with your partner?

The choice depends on how many shots you want. Here are the packages from my offer:

  • Mini maternity session — PLN 800: 6 photographs, 2 looks, approx. 40 minutes, individual photos and photos with your partner or children.
  • Standard Package — PLN 1,200: 12 photographs, up to 5 looks, approx. 1.5 hours, also including shots together.
  • Bump and Baby Package — PLN 2,200: a maternity and a newborn session in one, 12 photos from each session.

Every package includes 15×21 cm prints in a decorative box and full-resolution files. You will find the details on the maternity session in Warsaw page.

When to book a session together?

The best time is when your bump is clearly visible but you still feel well. This is usually around the start of the third trimester. It is worth writing in advance to book a date and choose your looks without rushing.

If you would also like photos with your baby after the birth, consider the combined package. Then we plan the date of the newborn session straight away.

Maternity session with your partner — frequently asked questions

Do we need to know how to pose?

No. Most couples who come to me have no experience in posing, and that is my role. I will guide you step by step, and you can copy proven poses after me, as if in a mirror.

What underwear should I bring to the session?

Your underwear should suit the outfits you choose. For the white lace dress, bring a white set; for the black dresses, a black one. A universal option is smooth nude underwear.

Can our children come to the session?

Yes. Photos with your partner or children are part of the mini session and the Standard package, so older siblings are welcome.

Do you recommend make-up and hair?

Yes, I warmly recommend it. I will gladly give you the contacts of make-up artists I trust, who will come to you or invite you to their own studio. You can read more about styling in the post maternity session with flowers.
